Back in 2006, when Franklin Ross (’68) assembled us for the first board meeting of the Worth County Education Foundation, I thought, “I seriously doubt this will be that big of a deal.” Boy, was I wrong! Through his leadership, the talents of our respective board members and mostly your generous support, the WCEF has touched hundreds of Worth County students’ lives. We have so many successful, interesting, and world-changing alumni across the United States and globe. We have all walked the same halls, fought with the same locker combinations, performed in the same auditoriums and have competed together on the same athletic fields
against the same nearby schools. However, I believe there is something more than just a shared commonality of experience between our alumni.
To me, what makes our alumni community special is its small size. In many ways, it feels like family. Lifelong relationships are formed where we share in others’ joys and sustain each other during times of grief. Personally, I am at that point in life where my peers’ parents are getting older and passing on. Many of these wonderful people had a positive impact on me in my youth and their passing causes me to pause and consider what impact I have had on the next generation of Tigers.
The WCEF is more than a way to give back. It is a way to connect. Though time and distance may have separated us since graduation, the bond of family continues throughout life.
